Biography

I am an asssociate professor in the Department of transportation at the South China University of Technology. Before this, I was a postdoc with the Department of human geography and spatial planning at the Utrecht Universit and a postdoc in the GIScience research group at the Heidelberg University, Germany. I hold a PhD degree from the Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands (graduated on 9 June 2015). My PhD research topic was “Navigation for first responders”, which was supervised by prof.dr. S. Zlatanova and Prof. dr. ir. P.J.M. van Oosterom. My fields of expertise include geomatics (spatial data modeling, processing, management and analysis), artificial intelligence (e.g., multi-agent system, machine learning), path planning, and optimization algorithms, etc. All of my publications can be found in Google Scholar and ResearchGate. I am also the secretary of ISPRS WG IV/8 Digital Twins for Mobility and Navigation.

Featured projects

Navigation for first responders among moving obstacles

This is my phd research and aim at developing an integrated navigation system for first responders in the presence of moving obstacles, using the agent technology. More details of this project can be via https://3d.

Vitality Data Center

This is a joint project between the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning of Utrecht Univeristy and the Department of Industrial Design of the Eindhoven University of Technology

Integration of indoor and outdoor navigation based on OpenStreetMap

In this study, we investigated using OpenStreetMap data to integrate indoor and outdoor route planning for pedestrians. Constructed 3D indoor environments from OSM data Developed a web application for 3D maps Generated 3D CityGML models from OpenStreetMap The demo of this project can be via https://www.

Quiet route planning

This project studied traffic noise Estimation from OpenStreetMap and used it for finding paths avoiding noise polluted areas. Developed traffic volume estimation models using machine learning techniques (e.g., random forest and decision tree) and deep learning algorithm (neural networks) Estimated traffic noise from OpenStreetMap Developed a navigation service to support quiet route planing for OpenRouteService The developments of this project can be found at http://k1z.
